HELENA HETTEMA CELEBRATES 21 YEARS WITH CD LAUNCH AT PRETORIA’S ATTERBURY

Award-winning cabaret artist, singer, songwriter and actress, Helena Hettema launches her new album “21 plus (2017)” on stage, at the Atterbury Theatre on 16 September 2017.

The performance will celebrate 22 years since her first CD “Fool’s Gold” was launched to critical acclaim by the then JNS. The title track features her former band “Golden Fleece” with Alwyn van Heerden (piano) Lindsay Liebenberg (bass guitar), Hennie van Jaarsveld (guitar) and Paul Greyling (drums). A video of this song about the poverty in evidence in the streets of Egoli was made and aired by SABC 2 as well as “Touch of Green” with seSotho, isiXhosa, English and Afrikaans words, and about conserving the planet.

Helena Hettema, celebrated singer, songwriter and cabaret artist, recipient of the SABC 2 Geraas Award for Best Female Vocalist for her CD, Divided Heart, the Vonk – second best album of the year, twice SAMA (SA Music Award)nominee and Laureatus of the University of Pretoria, pays tribute to 100 years of Piaf and to other French greats at the Atterbury Theatre, Pretoria on 5 August 2015. Her show features tracks from her CD, Spirit of Piaf and other great French Legends when she celebrates 100 years since the birth of Piaf in December 1915.

Helena Hettema, ‘Rooiwynliefde’ and the French Legends at the Atterbury Theatre in the Spring

Helena Hettema PosterAward-winning cabaret artist, Helena Hettema  who recently returned from the“Festivalvoor het Afrikaans” in The Hague, Netherlands, is once more at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria in early spring on 6 September, performing songs from her latest and 11th CD, the popular “Rooiwynliefde” which has received acclaim countrywide.

She pays tribute to the “The Little Sparrow”, as Edith Piaf was known in her lifetime, (and who sang, as she lived with total abandon) with music that Helena has been interpreting since the beginning of her career, among others, two performances with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra and also with her CD “Spirit of Piaf and other great French Legends”. The show also includes the music of Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour and Gilbert Becaud.
